Ometric Tackles Challenging Problem for Conventional Spectroscopy:
Real-time, In-line Compliance Testing of Powders
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Mar. 9, 2006) – Spectroscopy innovator Ometric Corporation announced today that its SpectrInline Processware™ has demonstrated real-time, in-line compliance testing of powders, using patented Multivariate Optical Computing™ (MOC™) technology.
Ometric Corporation's SpectrInline Processware™ provides real-time, in-line control of production processes and final product testing to a wide variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, agriculture, food and beverage, environmental, plastics, oil and gas, and homeland security.
In a live demonstration at PITTCON® 2006, Ometric's SpectrInline Processware™ will demonstrate realtime detection of aspirin in lactose, in concentrations varying from 20 to 40 percent, with an accuracy greater than 96 percent and a total measurement time of one-half second. This is just an example of how SpectrInline Processware™ performs in a powder application.
The SpectrInline Processware™ system's Multivariate Optical Computer™ will directly look at boats filled with powder of different concentrations, passing by at a speed of more than one inch per second, without the need of a fiber probe, which can limit measuring ability in certain applications. The Multivariate Optical Computer™ analyzes the compounds at the speed of light.
Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Robert Freese noted that powders have traditionally been the most challenging application of optical spectroscopy. Real-time, in-line accurate powder analysis has applications in many different industries. As an example, the pharmaceutical industry can realize significant gains through real-time, in-line compliance testing of excipients and active ingredients, in accordance with the objectives of the FDA's PAT (Process Analytical Technology) initiative.
Ometric will provide live demonstrations of high-speed powder analysis at PITTCON® 2006 in Orlando, Fla., from March 13 to 16. Additional demonstrations will include 100 percent analysis of 5 tablets per second, the blending of powders and high-speed liquid analysis.
The PITTCON® 2006 exposition will be held at the Orange County Convention Center. Ometric will be in Hall D, Booth # 5657. Join the countdown to real-time, in-line process control and final product testing by visiting www.ometric.com.
