Ometric’s SpectrInLine Processware Provides Unprecedented Energy Savings to the Salt Industry

Revolutionary Technology Provides Real Time, In Line, Continuous Moisture Control, Enabling Salt Producers to Save Energy by Avoiding Salt Over-Drying

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Spectroscopy innovator Ometric™ has developed technology that allows salt producers to operate their dryers at energy-efficient levels, by accurately measuring the concentration of moisture in their product, in-line and in real time. The company’s SpectrInLine Processware™, which is currently installed in several solar and evaporative salt production facilities, utilizes revolutionary application-specific Multivariate Optical Computing™ to provide continuous spectroscopy in real-time for salt industrial processes.

“Our experience in the salt industry has demonstrated a practice of drying beyond necessary levels to insure product quality and avoid a costly clean up. This often results in significant unnecessary energy consumption, cost and environmental impact to the manufacturer,” said Bob Freese, Chief Technology Officer of Ometric. “Our technology, which is installed directly in the process line, eliminates the need for ‘grab samples,’ and it improves profit margins and reduces energy costs at the same time.”

Ometric’s SpectrInline is designed to withstand harsh industrial environments and is directly mounted on relevant process control points of the production line, such as the dryers' inlet and outlet via a standard sanitary fitting.

By providing real-time measurement of the concentration of moisture at the speed of light, Ometric’s technology provides continuous and immediate feedback.  Data is instantly provided by the SpectrInLine Processware™, so that dryer temperature settings can be immediately adjusted manually or via PLC-based automation, optimizing the product's adherence to specifications.

Ometric’s Easy Fit® process allows for ease of engagement for potash manufacturers interested in learning more about how Ometric’s technology can benefit their industrial process. Easy Fit® provides a quick evaluation of SpectrInline applicability to the customer's process and requires no commitment of internal resources to lengthy feasibility programs.

“Salt manufacturers identified manufacturing process problems that they did not know that they had until taking advantage of our Easy Fit process, said Freese.  “Using our revolutionary Multivariate Optical Computing™, we were able to demonstrate to them that we are able to meet the everyday process control needs of salt industry manufacturers while helping increase their profitability, protect consumers, reduce waste and conserve energy – all while ensuring final product quality.”
